Tools I use to design websites
I primarily develop websites using WordPress or RapidWeaver. Both are good platforms and each has its strengths and weaknesses. While WordPress began as a blogging platform, it has evolved into a robust content management system (CMS). Similarly, RapidWeaver began life as a template-driven web publishing tool and has gained sophisticated CMS-like functionality over time.
WordPress and RapidWeaver have third-party themes and plug-ins that extend the core functionality of the underlying system. The other major difference is that a WordPress installation resides on a web server and as such, you can modify your site online through any modern web browser. On the other hand, RapidWeaver is a standalone OS X application that requires access to a Macintosh system running OS X (ver 10.9 or later).
In terms of a turnkey solution, the choice of platform is dictated by your needs - If you want a static website that showcases your products and services, either RapidWeaver or WordPress would be useful choices. On the other hand, sites requiring interactivity (comments, frequent postings, etc.) may benefit from the powerful CMS back-end afforded by WordPress. Regardless of the platform used, you can rest assured that the final product will be a website custom-tailored to your requirements and anticipated audience.
Responsive Web Design
With the recent trend towards mobile internet access, it is more important than ever to ensure that your website is accessible via both, traditional desktop and mobile browsers. As such, all the sites I design are responsive, which means the site's content resides within fluid grids that can flow to accommodate the dimensions of the screen. As such, the content will render equally well on desktops as they do on small smartphones. Moreover, by employing web standards that eschews the use of proprietary plug-ins, I can ensure that your site will be viewable and fully accessible through any modern web browser.
